Instagram account disabled. What can I do?
I’ve been on Instagram since 2012 with my own Instagram account @axlek. Since then, I have unblocked or unbanned over 100 other Instagram accounts. But how did I do that, exactly?
Why was your Instagram account suspended?
There are several possibilities why your account was suspended. Here I list a few of them.
- Content posted which is not allowed on Instagram
Here it will be difficult to get your account back, because there is usually already a warning before it bans your account. So you can badly cite things like your account was unjustifiably banned.
- You have done too many interactions (Likes / Follows / DM’s).
Here it’s a bit easier, as you can plead that you didn’t spam, but maybe wanted to contact people from a list or something similar. Here you can pretty much 100% recover your account with a method I’ll show you in a moment.
- You used automations (third party apps).
In principle, you will also have performed too many actions through these other apps. Therefore, as with the last point, it is possible to restore your account.
Has your Instagram account been hacked?
If your account has been hacked, it’s going to be difficult. You need to understand what hackers do with your account. Often people hack your account to resell it. Accounts that look like a normal person’s cost a lot of work and are not easy to obtain.
The fact that your friends like your pictures, and you have gathered a network of real people on your account, makes it worth a lot for hackers to do phishing, for example.
However, it can also be that the account is resold, renamed, and you lose it completely.
Importantly, hackers usually get into the Instagram account because your email address has been hacked. Many hackers try to use the email to log into all social media accounts that are connected to the email address. They often reset the password and then replace the email address with their own.
Then you get a mail that says, “If you have not made this change, click here”. However, the hackers delete this directly.
This has also happened to me, for example. That’s why it’s important to secure both your social media accounts and your email address with double authentication.
What can I do to unban my Instagram account?
The only way I know of that works 100% of the time is the following. There are forms on Instagram and Facebook for when your account has been unjustifiably deactivated. You can use these to unlock your account! I will list these in a moment with the links to them.
You can use these to restore your account. However, there are important guidelines you have to follow to avoid deleting your account completely.
The most important rule here is: Fill out a maximum of one form per day.
If you do it more often, you won’t be able to do it for days, because you will be classified as spam.
After you have filled out the form, you will receive an email asking you to take a piece of paper and write the following things on it
- A 6-digit code which you will receive by e-mail
- Your first and last name
- Your account name
Then you are to take a picture and hold up this piece of paper so that both hands are visible. This is to authenticate that it is a real person who is making this request, as this has been abused by bots before.
Now comes the trick. You do this every 24 or better 25 hours now. You may have to do it 30-60 times, but your account will definitely be unbanned after a certain number. You just have to be persistent.
You may get a mail telling you that you will not be unbanned. You can ignore it and continue. This may sound a bit crazy, but I can tell you that I have unbanned over 100 accounts, and I know people who have unbanned even more.
After the forms, I also found another method, which I explain there.
Here I have listed 5 forms which all have the same function. If one form doesn’t work, and you don’t get an email, just try another. Persistence is the key here.
However, always wait at least 2 minutes for an email, this may take a little longer depending on your mail provider.
Although there is little support from Instagram, I am glad that there is such a possibility to get in touch to restore your account. However, most people don’t value their account enough to spend 5 minutes a day for 1-2 months trying to recover it.

I hope you have good luck getting your account back because of this.
